Migraine and other forms of headaches
Headaches and migraine are, like diabetes and hypertension, a folk disease, which makes people suffer a lot and embitter their lifes. The definitions of the classial medicine for headache and migraine are so manifold and complicated, that a pain therapist once said, a normal doctor is not capable to treat headaches, because there exist more than 300 forms of headaches. About the sense and nonsense of this statement I refuse here a comment.
From the view of the SMT® there are quite a few basic forms of headache and migraine, which altogether are to be defined by appropriate damages at the spine.
- The tension headache is a pain, which can run from behind over the neck up to the middle of the skull into the forehead above the eyes. This pain is released by damages at the bladder meridian (L3 SMT®). While the tension headache can develop in the back of the head, the migraine in the forehead area and the fact that it can arise one- or double-sided, depends only on the extent of the damages at spine and joints. The bladder (L3 SMT®) belongs to the functional circuit bladder/uterus (L3 SMT®)/ kidneys (Th10 SMT® and Th11 SMT®)/ teeth and ears (C3). Under this aspect also the menstruation-depending headaches of the women are explicable.
- The lateral, over the temple running pain, which can also reach the lateral corner of the eye and even radiate into the checkbone area, I call gallbladder headache or -migraine. At the same time pain might arise in and behind the eyes as well as in form of an optic aura. Also the fact that this pain takes place one-sided or double-sided ringlike around the head, depends only on the constellation of the proper damages at spine and joints. The gallbladder meridian contacts in its course the ear area (acoustic aura). The gall belongs to the functional circuit gallbladder (Th4 SMT®)/ liver (Th5 SMT®)/ eyes and tongue (C2). Over the 2nd cervical vertebra this functional circuit is connected to those of the heart (Th2 SMT®)/ small intestine/ovarium (Th12 SMT®)/ tongue and eyes (C2)as well as circulation-sexus (Th2 SMT®)/ triple heater (Th12 SMT®)/ tongue and eyes (C2). The migraine in the time of ovulation of women are originated here.
- Migraine pain behind the eyes also can arise due to disturbances at the small intestine vertebra, -segment or -organ. The small intestine meridian (Th12 SMT®) runs over the shoulder blade and the triple heater (Th12 SMT®)over the lower lateral neck area. The small intestine belongs to the functional circuit heart (Th2 SMT®)/ small intestine (Th12 SMT®)/ tongue and eyes(C2). There the inner course of the heart meridian (Th2 SMT®) ends in or behind the eyes. The triple heater in its course is also connected to the ear (acoustic aura) and the vestibular apparatus(vertigo symptoms) like the gallbladder meridian.
It is known that many headache- or migraine patients suffer from sickness and vomiting during the attack. How can these symptoms be explained by means of the SMT®? Sickness and vomiting are connected to the stomach segment (Th6 SMT®). The stomach belongs to the functional circuit stomach (Th6 SMT®)/ spleen-pancreas (Th8 SMT® and Th7 SMT®)/ mouth and nose (C4). There is one important joint, through which run the small intestine meridian, the triple heater (both Th12 SMT®) and the stomach meridian and whose subluxations cause stomach pain and sickness - as well as arrhythmia - , that is the mandibular joint.
